How do I get my 10 month old interested in eating meat?
At this age, it’s common for little ones to gag when eating meat because they don't have the molars required for chewing it effectively. It also has a strange new taste and texture. Babies should not be offered bigger chunks of meat until they have enough teeth to chew it properly, and even then they should be chopped into little pieces.
It’s best to start with meat you have pureed yourself or with strained meats (available as jarred baby food). Chicken is a good one to start with. Add familiar vegetables and flavors into the puree so he can get used to the new taste while still tasting familiar things.
If your baby still rejects meat, keep offering it in very tiny portions for a while then stop and try again a few days or weeks later. Never seem excited, anxious or upset while doing this, it’s best to be relaxed and neutral around food. It should be associated with pleasant moments and no battles. Babies should not have a sense that they can make you very happy or very worried with their food choices.
Be patient, it’s a whole new world for your baby that takes some getting used to. I don’t know where I heard this, but if someone doesn’t like a taste right away, it takes at least 11 times of being offered that food item before a taste for it can be acquired. Good luck.
