Creating a Plan

Have you mapped out a plan yet? A couple of weeks ago I talked about getting a plan in place if you want to be bathing suit ready for the up-coming hot summer that “they” are predicting. Personally, bikinis are no longer a goal I must reach as I think I look pretty darn good (and feel good) in a tankini.

Goal setting and developing a step by step plan of action is key to reaching any goals whether it’s weight, money, success etc. Every expert on the plant will tell you that if you go into something without a clear idea of how you are going to get there, you are subconsciously sabotaging yourself from the get go. And although most of us know this, why is it so difficult to do? Because if you say it out loud, write it down and make a commit with someone, you might actually have to do it. Scary!!

And it is scary. Take a good look at yourself. Whatever your issues are, know that it didn’t happen overnight – not even close. It took however many years as you grew into an adult with husbands, kids, mortgages etc., to get where you are. And as most of us know, we are a total result of our thoughts and actions. As the responsibility increases, so does the stress and we always end up leaving ourselves last. So if that’s the case, how in the world can you expect to make a lifestyle change (because that’s exactly what it is) and expect it to be easy?

I have a client who said “Sam, it has taken me 44 years to get to this point so I know it’s not going to change overnight”. And this is true for so many of us. As we age and things “relax”, metabolism slows down and muscle mass decreases, we have to understand that there is hard work ahead. But diligence, focus and a P.L.A.N. can make the trek so much clearer.

So take out a blank notebook and write down what you want. Then write down what activities you enjoy that could help you get it. On a calendar, schedule your workouts/activities like you would any other appointment. Now that it’s in the calendar, it is scheduled time for you and cannot be changed. This has to be respected by everyone else in the family.

Let this be your first step in getting into a routine that will result in an all around lifestyle change. Next time I will talk about food and how small changes can make big impacts.
